Part of my job as part time receptionist at my parent's church is to send out cards to congregants who have requested prayer for specific needs. The staff prays over these needs during the week and then I address the cards. Every once and a while, someone will request prayer for a need that seems to me to be a joke. For example, someone recently requested prayer becuase he was going bald. My immediate reaction was to laugh and then to show other people so they could laugh, too.
I think I had an innapropriate reaction. While I do think it's a funny request and something this young man should not worry about, I should take his request seriously because it is serious to him. At the very least, I should not invite others to laugh along with me.
